I never understood why in season 3 everyone was so mad at Angel for what happened to Jenny. I mean I get it, but they’ve said from the beginning how different Angel and Angelus were. It makes no sense to hold Angel responsible for what Angelus did. Its just unfair.

Well, I’m still “mad” at Angel despite knowing that there’s a difference between Angelus and Angel, and despite it being all these years later, and despite it being fiction. It’s not difficult for me to imagine how the scoobies, Giles especially, would be upset over it, even knowing that Angel and Angelus were different entities.

I always thought Giles was a little hypocritical in that he got over what Angel did as Angelus, but couldn’t do the same for Spike.

Unpopular opinion time: I’m inclined to side with Giles on the topic of Spike. I don’t actively “ship” either “Bangel” or “Spuffy”, but I can recognize that Angel at least had Buffy’s best interest in mind when he was with her and had his soul.

Let’s look at it from Giles’ point of view. While Spike and Angel both made it clear that they loved Buffy, Angel was the one who reached out to the scoobies and worked along side them. Spike was antagonistic toward the scoobies from day one, and worked his hardest to alienate Buffy from her friends in seasons 6 and 7.

Angel left for Los Angeles after season 3, realizing that he was not a good influence on Buffy, and that she would not have any kind of future with him. Spike brought Buffy into the darkness, mentioning more than once that her place was in the dark, with him. Even after he got his soul back, he made no effort to make amends with the Scoobies for his past transgressions.
